Revit 2015 Update 11

Autodesk has released Update 11 for Revit 2015.  It appears that the release is primarily about stability of the software, but it is always a good thing to have better stability.

The following are listed improvements in Update 11.

  • Improves stability after editing a dimension witness line and then moving the mouse outside of the Properties palette.
  • Improves stability when creating dimensions.
  • Improves stability when working within a worksharing model with central files on an unstable network environment.
  • Improves stability when modifying a schedule’s appearance when the schedule does not contain table contents and headers.
  • Improves stability when encountering conflicting non-unique extensible storage schemas.

Following are the build numbers for Update 11:

  • Revit 2015 build: 20151207_1515
  • Revit 2015 R2 build: 20151208_0715

Unload Revit Link Per User

Autodesk has just released the Revit 2016 R2 update to users that are on the subscription program (both maintenance and desktop).  Autodesk has started providing these R2 releases mid-year and can include significant improvements.  While there are reportedly 25 updates in this release, there is one that I particularly like as a user working on a model with multiple other users.  That is the ability to unload a Revit link on a per user basis.

Prior to 2016 R2, if I unload a Revit link and Save to Central, the file will be unloaded for other users when they Save to Central or Reload Latest.

Being able to unload a Revit link on a per user basis means that I can unload a linked file and I will be the only user affected.  I can save the file to central with the file unloaded and when other users Save to Central or Reload Latest, their version will still have the link loaded.

There are definitely times when I want to increase my Revit’s performance and memory usage and I don’t need a loaded link throughout the day, but I can’t unload it because others need to have the link loaded for their purposes.  You can really annoy other users by unloading a link that they want to use or see.

Revit 2015 R2 Release

Autodesk has released Revit 2015 Release 2 for users on the subscriptions program.  It is meant to update your copy of Revit 2015 whether it is a standalone installation or part of one of Autodesk’s product suites.  This seems to be more than the typical service pack and is available only to those on the subscription program.  It includes additional capabilities, as well as includes service pack items included in update release 4.  After Release 2 is applied, the build number will be 20140905_0730 and will say “Update Release 4”.  (Note that non-subscription users do have access to Update 4 via the update page, but not this R2 version of it.)  Revit users on subscription can access this update by logging into their Autodesk Subscription site.

Revit 2015 R2 does not have a file format change so you can continue to work with Revit users that continue to use the existing Revit 2015 release.

A big enhancement to this R2 version is in the area of sitework.  Autodesk acquired the SiteWorks site planning software from Eagle Point Software Corporation.  Sitework has long been an area of limited capability within Revit and this enhanced capability will please many users wanting to do more with that aspect.  Subscription members can download the new Site Designer Extension for Revit 2015 from the Product Enhancements portion of the subscription site.

According to Autodesk’s notes on this release,

“This update requires either the initial release of Autodesk Revit 2015 (build: 20140223_1515) or Autodesk Revit 2015 Update Release 3 (build: 20140606_1530) . Autodesk Revit 2015 Update Release 3 will need to be applied to any installed Revit 2015 which has either Autodesk Revit 2015 Update Release 1 (build: 20140322_1515) or Autodesk Revit 2015 Update Release 2 (build: 20140323_1530) applied. Installation will also be blocked if Autodesk Revit 2015 Update Release 4 (build: 20140903_1530)) has been applied, a full uninstall followed by a new install of Autodesk Revit 2015 will be needed in order to apply Release 2.”

I installed this release without issue on my Autodesk Building Design Suite version which was running Update Release 3. Continue reading

Revit Architecture 2011 Hotfix for Color Fills

Autodesk issued a hot fix for their Revit Architecture 2011 product to address issues releated to some crashing occuring when using Color Fills.  This hot fix has not received much publicity, so I wanted to mention it and encourage users to download and install the fix.  It is a pretty quick and straightforward operation.

The hot fix can be downloaded from the following webpage:
Revit Architecture 2011 Colorfills Hotfix

Some notes:

  • Make sure that Update Release 2 has been applied prior to adding the hotfix. Verify that the build number of Revit 2011 is 20100903_2115.
  • The Utility.dll file will be manually replaced during this process.  The download only copies this file to your computer in a zip file.
  • Administrator rights are required to copy the Utility.dll to the proper location.
  • The readme file explains where to copy the file.
  • There are separate downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
